“To Live is to Die” is a site-specific sculpture that functions as an extension of Typoe's DIE FORM series of light sculptures. The series reflects on early childhood education and the building blocks that children use to learn names, numbers, and colors. Typoe was inspired by German educator Friedrich Froebel, who invented the concept of kindergarten in the early 1800s. Froebel believed in the power of early education for children and its positive effects on development. Typoe's block sculptures speak to both children and adults - to one group, they encourage creativity, to the other, they act as a reminder that life can be both fragile and playful. To Live is to Die is meant to be an expression of the evolution of learning, building the world around us, and how we think about life and death.
